Nearly 84 million dollars in federal funding will help BC Hydro fill clean energy needs in the South Peace.
With an influx of natural gas exploration and development, energy demands in the region will continue to increase.
In order to meet the increased demand, BC Hydro is expanding their transmission infrastructure by building two 230 kilovolt power lines.
Those lines will run from the future Site C substation site near Fort St John, to the Groundbirch station, 30 kms east of Chetwynd.
In total, the project is projected to decrease greenhouse gas emmissions in the region by as much as 2.6 megatonnes per year.
In addition to the 83.6 million coming from the federal government, BC Hydro will front the remaining 205 million dollar project cost.
