In an effort to right a wrong committed more than 6 decades ago, the province has reached an agreement with the Cheslatta Carrier Nation.
Back in 1952, the Nation was forced off of their traditional lands to make way for what is now known as the Nechako Reservoir.
Now, the province has come to a Settlement Agreement, and Interim Reconciliation Agreement with the Nation.
Under those agreements, the Cheslatta Nation will be provided with funding and lands to create a future home for their community.
Lands for transfer and tenure will be proposed by the Nation, followed by an extensive engagement period with neighbouring Nations and stakeholders to determine final land parcels.
