Improved access to team-based primary health care in coming to Prince George and the surrounding area.
Premier John Horgan was in Prince George today to announce a new urgent primary care centre, as well as the launching of a primary-care network.
Through the Network, 87,500 residents in Prince George and the surrounding area will gain access to collaborative, community based, care.
All 34 clinics and health centres in the area will work together on this new team-based approach.
Horgan says this new approach will help shape healthcare around the needs of the region.
In addition to the Network, a new urgent care clinic opening at Parkwood Place Mall in June will provide capacity for an additional 8 thousand patient visits annually.
30 new health care professionals, including an Indigenous elder to provide cultural safety, will be recruited under the programs.
By the third year, the province will providing 4.7 million dollars in annual funding to the projects.
