Regulatory changes in effect today will make it easier for health care and emergency service workers to access mental-health compensation.
Nurses, emergency dispatchers, and publicly funded health-care assistants will now face a shortened claims compensation process.
Under amendments to the Workers’ Compensation Act made last year, the definition of presumptive illnesses was expanded for police, firefighters, and paramedics.
Health care workers will now be under the same rules.
This means that trauma related mental health disorders and illnesses resulting from trauma will be considered workplace illnesses.
