With the June release of their much anticipated report looming, the National Inquiry in to Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women is still fighting for access to two files.
Those files are the last of 12 disputed initially as active files by RCMP in court.
Those 12 files were the most sought after of 59 requested for forensic document review by the Inquiry.
According to the document review team, the outstanding files could help in identifying systematic barriers related to the protection of Indigenous women and girls.
Information on the two disputed files is sparse, with only the titles, “Missing Person: Missing Indigenous Woman” and “Homicide: Murdered Indigenous Woman”, being made public.
A court case to decide the fate of the files is currently making its way through courts.
