Coastal GasLink has decided not to proceed with civil contempt charges against 14 Unist’ot’en members arrested in January.
Yesterday, the BC Prosecution Service said there was insufficient evidence to convict the Wet’suwet’en land defenders of criminal contempt charges.
Now the charges, relating to an early January RCMP injunction enforcement at a Gidimt’en checkpoint, have been dropped.
CGL has now decided to follow the Prosecution Service’s lead, saying they do not wish to proceed with the contempt charges.
One, separate, count of assaulting a police officer with a weapon was approved by the Crown against Anton William Bueckert.
Each of the 14 were arrested while attempting to keep CGL pipeline workers off of their traditional territory near Houston.
