Smithers was the only major community in Northwestern BC to see an increase in housing sales through the first quarter of 2019, when compared to 2018.
In total, Smithers saw 44 units sold through March 31st, compared to 42 over the same time last year.
While the number of sales were higher, the total value actually dropped to 12.6 million dollars from 13.6 million.
Terrace saw the opposite effect, with 53 sales in 2019’s first quarter, valued at 16.9 million, compared to 56 for 14.5 million in 2018.
In Kitimat, there were 19 sales for 6.7 million dollars, compared to 32 for 7.5 million the previous year.
Rounding out the northwest, Prince Rupert saw a value of 8.8 million from their 34 first-quarter sales, with 48 for 13 million last year.
Quesnel and Williams Lake also saw drops in units sold, while witnessing an increase in value of those sales.
Fort St John and Fort Nelson each saw increases in units sold, with value of sales increasing in Fort St John and decreasing in Fort Neslon.
