A pair of volunteer fire departments in the Cariboo teamed up with the BC Wildfire Service to tackle a number of grass fires on Friday evening.
Volunteer fire fighters from the Quesnel department received the initial call of a grass fire at the corner of Highway 97 and the Barkerville Highway.
When they began to receive calls of multiple fires, they called in the Barlow Creek department to assist.
Together, they were able to put out 80 percent of the fires, though the blaze had begun to extend to a nearby forested area.
Quesnel’s team was on scene for nearly 2 hours fighting the blazes before the BC Wildfire Service arrived to deal with the rest of the flames.
