Williams Lake has been approved for 100 thousand dollars in provincial funding to reduce wildfire risks and impacts in the area.
Funding comes from the province’s new Community Resiliency Investment program which, for 2019, is focused on Fire Smart activities.
For Williams Lake, that funding will go towards fuel treatment at a number of areas within city limits.
Under the Fire Smart program, the city will receive the funding over the next 2 years and be able to undertake up to 115 thousand dollars in total work.
Fire Smart Community funding is administered through a partnership between the Ministry of Forests, Forest Enhancement Society of BC, UBCM, and the First Nations’ Emergency Services Society.
