Forestry improvement projects in Terrace, Burns Lake, 100 Mile House, and Haida Gwaii will share in nearly $3.4 million in provincial funding.
Forests Minister Doug Donaldson announced funding from the Forest Enhancement Society of B.C at the Council of Forest Industries convention in Vancouver.
The Coast Mountains Natural Resource District is getting $450,000 to increase spacing and growth rates in second-growth stands while the Terrace Community Forest will get over $200,000 for the implementation of silviculture strategy and treatments.
The Cheslatta Carrier Nation is getting $1.25 million for rehabilitation of forests damaged by wildfires, while Taan Forest Products will get over $1.1 million for fertilization, spacing and pruning, and restoration of riparian areas on Haida Gwaii.
Norbord will get over $300,000 to recover wood fibre from low-value stands to make oriented strand board in 100 Mile House.
The goal of the project funding is to bring damaged forests back into production in order to contribute to the mid-term timber supply and support future jobs.
