BCIT and the Kitimat Valley Institute are working together to bring better training for mariners in the north.
KVI President and CEO Tanya Rexin announced that they will be bringing a bridge watch program to the north, as well as a new strategy for marine training programs.
Rexin made the comments while participating in a panel at the Haisla LNG Conference in Kitimat.
She said they were talking to partners, including the Haisla, this week regarding expanding marine training access.
Demand for trained mariners on the coast is set to increase as Prince Rupert continues to establish itself as a world class shipping hub.
