UBCIC President Grand Chief Stewart Phillip says Indigenous opposition to the Trans Mountain Pipeline will continue regardless of ownership.
Those comments come following recent efforts by as many as five First Nations communities to acquire ownership stakes in the project.
One Alberta based effort, the Iron Coalition, even met with Federal Finance Minister Bill Morneau last week.
That group has sent out a call to all First Nations across Canada asking them to participate in th 6.8 billion dollar purchase proposal.
But Grand Chief Phillip says that the expansion project is detrimental to the marine ecosystem, regardless of who owns it.
The Federal government purchased the project for 4.5 billion dollars last year with the intention of selling it off to a private investor.
