Keeping with the first phase of their review in to BC Hydro, the province has introduced ammendments to allow for more oversight.
In a report released earlier this year, the review found that BC Hydro had been largley bypassing the BC Utilities Commission.
As the province’s independant regulator, BCUC is tasked with making sure BC Hydro keeps practices affordable, and works for British Columbians.
Now, changes made to the Clean Energy Act, Utilities Commission Act, and the Hydro and Power Authority Act will restore that oversight.
Previously, Hydro had submit their Integrated Resources Plan directly to the government.
Under the new legislation, they will instead submit the IRP to the Utilities Commission, restoring a large amount of oversight.
More ammendments are on the way as the government continues to adopt the recommendations of their comprehensive review.
