The Kitimat Fire Department is trying to help clear the air.
The department has instructed all sites conducting burning to stop because of excessive smoke in the Kitimat Valley.
Officials say those with burning operations will be pulling apart piles to cut down on the smoke.
The District of Kitimat says burning will be off limits until proper venting occurs and conditions improve.
