Homegrown innovation is the focus of Quesnel’s newly announced Forest Initiatives Program.
A result of the City’s Future of Forestry Think Tank, the program aims to find solutions for the multitude of challenges facing the forestry-dependant community.
Working in conjunction with the Community Wildfire Protection Plan, the program is carrying out the following initiatives: implementing the protection plan to protect homes and businesses on Crown Land, restoring the land after insect outbreaks, wildfires and floods, research in to how to diversify the wood manufacturing industry, building a new forestry innovation centre, and advocating for a community forest.
Funding for the program is provided by the City, BC Rural Dividend, Community Resiliency Investment Program, Forestry Enhancement Society of BC, and Cariboo Strong.
