British Columbia’s first ever poverty reduction strategy is wasting no time getting started in Prince George.
TogetherBC, announced yesterday, aims to reduce poverty in BC by 25 percent over the next 5 years.
Today, Minister of Poverty Reduction Shane Simpson announced the first step in that strategy: a 26 week training program in Prince George.
Run by LaKeCoRe Management and Training through WorkBC, the First Peoples Hospitality Program will help 20 young adults start a career in the hotel and hospitality industry.
Included in the program are 18 weeks of employability skills training, six weeks of on-the-job training with industry partners, and two weeks of job-search support.
196 thousand dollars in funding has been committed to the program by the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction.
