A Bulkley Valley agricultural group sees growth potential in a former elementary school near Smithers.
Now that School District 54 has authorization to sell Lake Kathlyn School, Coast Field and Forest Cooperative wants to forge ahead with one of is proposed initiatives for the facility.
One of those includes using part of the school and its ten-acre property for an agricultural research facility.
Part of the building is occupied by a private daycare and CFFC Director Darcy Repen says there was a positive meeting with the operators about the possibility for shared use.
Repen says the cooperative plans to reach out to potential funding partners and stakeholders in the coming weeks and notes an agricultural research facility would have strong grant potential for federal and provincial government funding.
CFFC plans to hold its AGM in April at a date and time to be determined.
