According the the BC Oil and Gas Commission, Indigenous artifacts discovered near Houston likely did not originate there.
Last month, a pair of ancient stone tools and various artifacts were discovered by Wet’suwet’en members near a Coastal GasLink worksite.
Work on the pipeline route in the area was then suspended while the Commission investigated the discovery.
Upon investigation, the Commission is now saying that the soils upon which the artifacts were found would not typically contain such artifacts.
While the Commission says the location was not likely the original home of the artifacts, they are unable to make a definitive determination on where that may have been.
They are working to return the artifacts to their appropriate Indigenous communities.
