A Prince Rupert brewery says shellfish will be part of its latest libation.
Wheelhouse Brewing Company will put locally produced scallops from Coastal Shellfish Corporation into its Great Bear Scallop Stout.
Craig Outhet of Wheelhouse says the marriage of shellfish and beer dates back to Victorian times, but using scallops is uncommon.
Outhet says the calcium from shells mellows out the the sharpness of the road while the brine adds a creamy savouriness to the beer.
The new brew will be ready for Saint Patrick’s Day.
