It’s being called the largest connectivity investment in B.C.’s history.
The provincial government is spending $50 million dollars to expand high-speed Internet service in rural and Indigenous communities.
Citizens’ Services Ministry Jinny Sims, who made the announcement in Prince George, says the investment will mean an additional 200 more rural and Indigenous communities will benefit.
Lynda Pattie, executive director with Prince George technology firm AscenTECH Solutions, says people want to stay, work, and learn in rural and Indigenous communities, but often need to leave in order to access services that could be provided through broadband.
The Province says the funding will be transferred to the Northern Development Initiatives Trust for allocation.
