British Columbia saw an increase in total housing starts compared to February of last year, but suffered a drop off from January.
According to data from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, centres with a population greater than 10 thousand saw 18 percent more housing starts in the month compared to 2018.
However, the same areas were plagued by a 10 percent drop from the previous month.
A drop in single detached home starts by 19 percent prevented 2019’s numbers from dwarfing 2018’s even more.
But a 28 percent increase in all other housing starts more than made up for the dip.
Quarterly numbers, set to be released next month, will shed a better light on individual community housing numbers.
