2019 will be a maintenance and review year for the City of Quesnel, according to City Council.
As they finalize their 2019 budget, Council have instructed City staff that no major disruptive capital projects will begin this year.
Council also says they will use the year to review financial policies and bring forward a tax framework through 2022.
A total taxation increase of 7 percent is required this year, according to the current draft of the city’s operating budget.
However, Council is considering the use of their 2018 surplus to fund a one-time request of just over 321 thousand dollars.
This would lower the total taxation rate increase to 4.9 percent.
There are still a number of steps that must be passed before Council finalizes their Five-Year Financial Plan on May 15th.
