While more beneficial than last year’s version, Quesnel Mayor Bob Simpson says their 2019 budget survey garnered some contradictory results.
Giving examples of this, Simpson referenced the wishes of those surveyed to add more police officers, while ranking funding for bylaw enforcement among their lowest priorities.
Simpson also pointed to similar low-priority rankings for beautification and community events, while ranking economic development as a focus.
Despite this, the mayor says the survey was much more informative than last year’s, where residents misunderstood the scope of municipal politics.
This led Council to add pre-emptive clarifications to the beginning of the 2019 survey, something they will further refine for 2020.
544 residents participated in the 2019 survey, compared to 116 in 2018.
