Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s former Principal Secretary Gerald Butts testified in front of the Justice Committee today.
Butts testimony was in relation to the on-going SNC-Lavalin controversy which resulted in former Attorney General Jody Wilson-Raybould leaving cabinet.
Wilson-Raybould testified before the same committee last week, stating that she was pressured to reverse her decision on the case numerous times by Trudeau’s office.
Today, Butts followed that 4 hour testimony with a 2 and a half hour testimony of his own.
During the testimony, Butts refuted claimed that any discussions outside of legal scope of federal politics took place.
According to Butts, neither he nor his office were ever notified in writing that the former Attorney General had made her decision on the case.
Both testimony’s are regarding Wilson-Raybould’s decision not to issue SNC a defered prosecution agreement relating to bribery charges in Libya between 2001 and 2011.
