According to a report released this morning by BC’s Auditor General, BC Emergency Health Services is in need of improvement in some key areas.
While the report does suggest that BCEHS is effectively managing their resources in some areas, others are in need of faster access to emergency care.
One of the areas most in need of improvement, according to the report, is response time for patients requiring time-critical care.
Another is co-ordination with local fire departments, which the report says may require provincial oversight to improve.
Auditor General Carol Bellringer says BCEHS is in the middle of a transformational change to better match patient needs.
This includes a new dispatching approach, as well as increasing the number of ambulances and paramedics.
