The BC government says it’s trying to stay out of the courts when it comes to the controversial Site C dam in the Peace.
The province says it’s entering into confidential discussions with Treaty 8 First Nations and BC Hydro in a bid to find alternatives to litigation.
The Prophet River First Nation and West Moberly First Nations filed civil claims alleging Site C and two other previous dams on the Peace River infringe on their rights under Treaty 8.
All parties will continue to prepare for the legal case to be heard while discussions move forward on alternatives to litigation.
During a court appearance today (Tuesday), lawyers for the province, First Nations, and BC Hydro proposed a case plan for a 120-day trial starting in 2022.
