Two expanded mining divisions are being added to the Ministry of Energy, Mines, and Petroleum Resources to help improve safety and efficiency.
With a focus on health, safety, and compliance management, the Mines Health, Safety, and Enforcement division will create a new compliance auditing and effectiveness monitoring team.
The Mines Competitiveness and Authorizations Division will promote investment in the province’s mining sector and establish a new, properly resourced, approvals process.
20 million dollars is being invested in the changes over the next 3 years.
30 new jobs are expected to be created by the addition of the divisions this year, with 35 more in each of the next two.
