The BC Oil and Gas Commission says it is partnering with First Nations to restore former oil and gas sites in northeast B.C.
The Commission and the Fort Nelson First Nation are working in the Clarke Lake area and other former sites to restore them to their natural state.
After site sampling and earthworks in the affected areas, work will culminate with the planting of native seeds in the spring.
Chief Curtis Dickie says the projects will create employment for the Fort Nelson First Nation while taking environmental responsibilities to the next level.
The BC Oil and Gas Commission says it’s planning to work with other Treaty 8 First Nations to explore restoration practices at orphan oil and gas well sites in their territories.
