The B.C. government is providing nearly a half million dollars to for skills training in the Nass Valley.
The Nisga’a Lisims Government will get $300,000 to offer 20 people management skills in the villages of Gitlaxt’aamiks, Gitwinksihlkw, Laxgalts’ap, and Gingolx.
The training will come through the Nisga’a Canadian Aboriginal Management Program delivered by the University of Victoria.
The Village of Gingolx is receiving nearly $198,000 to support 15 people to increase their employment options through training in industries like hospitality and tourism.
The programming will be provided by Indigenous Community for Leadership and Development.
Nisga’a Nation President Eva Clayton says the money, provided through the Community Workforce Response Grant, will allow Nisga’a members to enhance their skills at home in the Nass Valley while maintaining a strong cultural identity.
The funding was announced by advanced education minister Melanie Mark.
