Reactions to a First Nations revenue sharing plan revealed during yesterday’s budget announcement have been largely positive.
While some say the plan to split gaming revenue with First Nations is long overdue, few can find fault with the agreement itself.
A new BC limited partnership will be established by the First Nations Gaming Commission, with a First Nations appointed board of directors, to manage the funding.
Half of the funding will be split equally among all BC First Nations, the rest will be distributed based on need.
A formula using population, size, remoteness, and more will be used to determine where the funding will go.
Each First Nations community will be eligible for between 250 thousand and 2 million dollars annually.
