A fundraiser to help the family of young mother whose life was cut short has reached its goal.
Eighteen-year-old Jessica Patrick (Balczer) disappeared from Smithers August 31 and her body was discovered approximately two weeks later.
A GoFundMe campaign launched by Smithers Mayor Taylor Bachrach brought in $5000 to assist Jessica’s family.
Bachrach, who announced the fundraiser had reached its target over the weekend, says the money has been deposited in a Registered Education Savings Plan in the name of Jessica’s young daughter.
Jessica Patrick (Balczer), a member of the Lake Babine Nation, was last seen leaving the Mountain View Motel in Smithers on August 31.
Her body was discovered September 15 on Hudson Bay Mountain, but few details about her death have been released.
Corporal Madonna Saunderson with North District RCMP says the investigation into Patrick’s death remains active and ongoing, but says there have been no further updates.
