Thanks to Northern Health’s IMAGINE grants program, a number of students in Prince George were able to experience the thrill of nature in a new way.
Founded by Westwood Elementary teacher Tanja Wilson, the Trailblazers program helps show those not fortunate enough to afford their own the thrill of biking.
With the funding, Wilson was able to purchase 25 bikes, helmets, and pad sets, as well as organize a number of lessons for the children.
Those lessons covered bike safety and maintenance, hand signals, road crossing, and how to replace broken parts.
Once the equipment and training had been secured, the program was able to run twice a week for primary students and twice a week for intermediate students until the cold weather hit.
