The BC Assembly of First Nations is pleased with the B.C. government’s Throne Speech.
BCAFN Regional Chief Terry Teegee says he welcomes the NDP’s commitment to reconciliation contained in the document.
The government reiterated its commitment to implement legislation on the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples in consultation with First Nations.
Teegee says the Throne Speech reflects years of hard work by First Nations leaders and the government to advance the economic and shared decision-making components of First Nations rights and title.
He says The BCAFN looks forward to having further details of commitments regarding reconciliation in the upcoming budget speech February 19th.
