According to a report in to ICBC’s claims settlement and litigation practices, the corporation’s current framework for resolving disputes in unsustainable.
Conducted by ministry legal counsel in the summer of 2018, the review intended to assess ICBC’s bodily injury claims settlement and litigation practices from a legal perspective.
Counsel also looked in to assertions that ICBC was responsible for inappropriately low settlement offers or taking cases to trial to generate unnecessary legal costs.
While they found no evidence of those claims, has recommended some improvements to the corporation’s claims management.
100 case files from between 2013 and 2017 were selected to form the basis of the review.
