Recent concerns over a CP Rail train derailment will continue to grow after a wreck east of Field claimed 3 lives this morning.
Just after 1:00 this morning, the westbound train left the tracks, sending the locomotive in to the Kicking Horse River and derailing between 30 and 40 grain cars.
Three crew members passed away before emergency crews could arrive.
CP says that there is no risk to the public and that no dangerous goods were being transported.
Nontheless, the incident comes up just days after writer Bruce Campbell made his way through the northwest preaching improved rail safety.
Just one week ago, Terrace City Council played host to Campbell to discuss the topic, as well as a correspondent at their regular meeting 2 weeks prior.
Most of the concerns surround CP’s refusal to disclose dangerous goods shipping information, and on their reliance on municipal governments for spill response.
