Environment Canada says a recent blast of Arctic air has resulted in record minimum temperatures for some northern B.C. communities.
Smithers hit minus 33.3 degrees Celsius Sunday and minus 32.4 Monday, breaking previous lows set in 1989.
Chetwynd set a new record Sunday with the mercury down at minus 38.5, outdoing the previous low set in 1988.
Burns Lake wasn’t far behind on the same day with a minimum temperature of minus 38.1, compared to the previous record of minus 35 set in 1975.
Although not quite as bone-chilling, records were also broken Sunday in Bella Bella and Sandspit with lows of minus 12.9 and minus 8.7 respectively.
Arctic outflow warnings remain in place for Kitimat, Terrace, and Stewart while an extreme cold warning remains in effect for the B.C. Peace region.
