Grand Chief Ed John’s report in to Indigenous child welfare has led the Ministry of Children and Family Development to employ new hiring standards.
These new standards will be applied to applicants for frontline jobs in child and youth care.
While preference will still be given to applicants with degrees in social work or child and youth care, those with other experience will now also be considered.
Those with a combination of relevant degrees or diplomas in human services, certificates, and work experience will now also be considered.
These changes will allow managers to pull from a larger pool to fill necessary roles, while also maintaining proper standards for employees.
