BC is welcoming assistance from US tech developers in the fight against opioid overdose deaths in the province.
University of Washinton researchers have been testing their new app, dubbed “second chance”, at Vancouver’s supervised injection site.
According to developers, the app monitors breathing patterns to automatically trigger an alarm that gets sent out to pre-set emergency numbers, if the user is at risk of overdose.
Second Chance uses the phone’s speaker as a sonar device to do this and sends the location of the user to the emergency contact when triggered.
