Williams Lake Mounties are reminding people to take a few basic safety precautions when out walking.
The notice comes as police continue to investigate an attempted abduction reported Wednesday night.
RCMP say a female was walking down 2nd Avenue North near the Treehouse apartments when a man asked her for a cigarette.
After she offered him the smoke, police say the man grabbed her arm and tried to take control of her.
The female kicked the suspect and ran to a safe area where she called police.
The suspect is described as a shorter, heavy-set Caucasian male, about 50 years old, wearing a blue jean jacket, a red and black plaid shirt, and a black hat.
RCMP recommend walking with a friend, leaving your earphones off, and staying in well-lit areas to stay safe.
Anyone with information about the incident should contact Williams Lake RCMP at 250-392-6211 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
