Quesnel’s Crown Counsel office is not in need of additional resources, according to BC Attorney General David Eby.
In November, Quesnel Mayor Bob Simpson sent Eby a letter asking to increase local Crown Counsel Resources to help prosecute offenders in a timlier manner.
According to the Attorney General, Quesnel’s office is operating with a full compliment, with a stable case load and adequate time to trial.
Eby also noted that, if there is no minimum punishment, judges have “considerable latitude” in determining sentences.
Simpson says their issues have more to do with failures to appear, breach of parole, and failure to present evidence.
He says he intends to send a follow-up letter to Eby in response.
