Imperial Metals has announced it is suspending operations at the Mount Polley gold and copper mine in the Cariboo.
The company says low copper prices are to blame for the decision.
Imperial Metals says milling of low grade stockpiles means operations will likely continue to the end of May.
It says the shutdown will not affect the mine’s ongoing environmental monitoring and remediation program.
The mine’s tailings dam failed in August, 2014, sending 24 million cubic metres of mining waste into nearby lakes and rivers.
