Two Fraser River Islands have been ordered to take corrective measures following a DFO investigation.
According to the DFO, Herrling Island, and Carey Island, destroyed fish habitats in a crucial area for the survival of salmon, steelhead, and white sturgeon.
Located in the Heart of the Fraser, the water around the two islands becomes home to millions of fish, who use it as a nursery, each spring.
Owned by Klassen Farms Limited, and Carey Farms Limited, the two islands are intended to play host to a number of small crops, with private bridge construction permits under review.
The DFO did not specify on what the corrective measures were, but says that failure to comply could result in serious ramifications.
