Associate professor Doctor Sarah De Leeuw is the newest UNBC faculty member to be named a Canada Research Chair.
De Leeuw will fill the position in the field of Humanities and Health Inequalities as one of 7 UNBC Chairs.
The appointment is as a Tier 2 CRC, which is peer awarded to exceptional emerging researchers with the potential to become leaders in their field.
With the appointment, De Leeuw will receive 500 thousand dollars in funding over the next 5 years to continue her research in to how arts and humanities relate to health inequalities among marginalized peoples.
She hopes that, through her research, she can encourage medical professionals to explore more rural areas and work with Indigenous people.
Two other UNBC members, Doctor Sarah Gray, and Doctor Brian Menounos were also reappointed as Tier 2 CRCs.
