Quesnel’s forestry sector is in line for numerous improvements thanks, in part, to a 367 thousand dollar provincial grant.
Announced today, the funding will come from the special circumstances provision of the Rural Dividend Fund, and aims to create new opportunities in forestry management and product manufacturing.
In March, the City of Quesnel held their Future of Forestry Think Tank, which produced a set of recommendations that led to the funding.
Some of the recommendations include: expanding training and education, developing non-timber or fibre based products, diversifying the manufacturing hub, reducing fibre recovery costs, assessing the future of the forestry market, and establishing a forestry leadership group.
Mayor Bob Simpson says the funding will help to reinvent the forestry sector, and create sustainable jobs for future generations.
