Residents of Old Fort who were evacuated due to last week’s landslide are being warned that ignoring the order will not be tolerated.
In a release this morning, the district said that, as of this morning, any resident caught defying the evacuation order will be fined 10 thousand dollars and could face jail time.
200 residents were evacuated following the slow-moving landslide which devastated the only road leading in to the community on September 30th.
According to district officials, the landslide itself is still active and continuing to move forward every day.
It is estimated that evacuees could be away from their homes until as late as next summer.
