A new poverty reduction strategy aims to reduce BC’s poverty rate by 25 percent in 5 years, but it must first be designed to work with British Columbians.
Supported by legislation introduced today, the new Poverty Reduction Strategy Act will shape the new strategy based on public engagements held across BC.
If the legislation is passed, it will hold the government to a strict set of deadlines which will see the first Poverty Reduction Strategy released by March 31st of 2019.
The legislation would also establish a poverty advisory committee, and require the government to issue annual updates on its progress.
