With today marking the 11th anniversary of the UN’s Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, Premier John Horgan has released a statement showing the progress his government is making.
Premier Horgan says his government is answering the calls of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission by implimenting First Nations history and language education, allocating 50 million dollars in funding to the First People’s Cultural Council, funding on-reserve housing, building and operating more than 17 hundred social housing units, and drafting 10 principles to guide public service employees in their dealings with Indigenous Peoples.
Horgan says his government will continue to work with Indigenous groups in the province to build a better government-to-government relationship.
