According to the BC Centre for Disease Control, dentists in the province are prescribing too many anti-biotics.
The Centre is concerned that the over-prescribing of the drugs is leading to drug resistant infections in the province.
While doctors across the province have lowered prescription rates by 30 percent over the past 20 years to combat the problem, dentists have not been able to follow suit.
The BC Dental Association says that the over-prescribing of anti-biotics is due to a steady increase in new and complex procedures, which dentists are still learning how to treat without drugs.
