Following the two worst wildfire seasons in BC’s history, the province will be taking new strides to reduce wildfire risks.
Announced today, the new Community Resiliency Investment Program will see the provincial government provide local and First Nations governments with up to 50 million dollars over the next 3 years to better protect their communities.
The new program is a collaboration between numerous government agencies, including the First Nations Emergency Services Society of BC.
Up to 10 million dollars will be available for the 2018-2019 fiscal year, with 20 million becoming available in each of the following two years.
Under the program, local governments will be able to apply for up to 100 thousand dollars to cover up to 100% of risk reduction activities.
