A Terrace woman and a Williams Lake man are among 40 recipients of the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers for 2018.
Donna Ziegler, of Terrace, has spent more than 40 years volunteering with numerous organizations including the Heart and Stroke Foundation, and the Rotary Club.
Ziegler began the Dare to Dream Foundation to combat music funding cuts and allow students to particiapte in music classes.
Surinderpal Rathor, of Williams Lake, has spent 4 decades with the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program, and is a member of the local health board, and a founder of the Community Policing Committee.
The medals are awarded by the Governor General of Canada each year, and replace the Caring Canadian Award previously handed out for accomplishments in volunteering.
The awards will be handed out by Lieutenant Governor of BC, Janet Austin in Victoria on Thursday.
